Of all things, trees are the ones that have given me the greatest comfort over the time. Having been raised in the suburbs, trees were the comfort, haven as well as a friend. When I come across a wondrous tree I can't help myself go meet the tree and hang around it. 

In my photography, trees are not the photo graphical ‘object’ but the theme and the ‘subject’ which I willingly explore. Wearing the lights as make-up, trees stand tall as heroes and heroines themselves. 

A question arises. Is it I who is looking at the trees; or the trees looking at me? Who is the subject of viewing, me or the trees?Am I the audience, or are the trees?

<작가노트>

​

내게 언제나 가장 큰 위안을 준 것은 나무였다. 시골에서 어린 시절을 보낸 나에게 나무는 언제나 위안이었고, 안식이었고, 친구였다. 
지금도 멋진 나무를 보면 곁을 떠나지 못하고 주위를 서성이게 된다. 
 
내 사진에서 나무는 하나의 사진적‘소재’가 아니라 바로 내가 탐구해야 할 ‘주제’이다. 조명이라는 메이크업을 하고 도도하게 서 있는 저 나무들은 그 자체가 주인공이다. 
 
가끔 의문이 든다. 내가 나무를 보는 것인가 나무가 나를 보는 것인가. 
내가 관객인가 나무가 관객인가.
