<Artist note>

The human being moves toward the unknown and the universe one step at a time.  
We develop science and technology, create new things, and destroy them...this is how we move forward.  
I believe that it is the fate of the animal to constantly be moving towards something.

 

One beautiful autumn day, I saw a ginkgo tree that had lived for a thousand years. 
I looked at the tree at night when the stars were full  and during the day when the sun was shining. The tree is holding the universe in its ancient limbs. 
My dear tree, you are waiting for the universe to come to you. 

It is the tree that touches the universe. Its roots go down deep into the ground, constantly carrying the energy of the universe to the trunk. 
 
Perhaps we have already embraced the universe and all it has to offer. 
I thought we might have been forgotten for a while because we were swept away by bustling movements and blind desires. 
 
While I was preparing for the exhibition, I thought  about the many changes, the suffering, and the happiness that tree had experienced. We can all relate to the feelings of that tree when we live for a long time.

<작가노트>

​

인간은 미지를 향해, 우주를 향해 한발 한발 나아갑니다. 과학기술을 발전시키고, 새로운 걸 만들고 또 부수며 그렇게 나아갑니다. 무언가를 향해 끊임없이 움직이는 것, 동물의 숙명인지도 모른다는 생각을 합니다.

어느 아름다운 가을날, 천 년을 살았다는 은행나무를 보았습니다. 별이 가득한 밤과 태양이 반짝이는 낮에 그 나무를 보며 생각했습니다. 나무는 이미 제 안에 우주를 품고 있구나. 우주가 저에게 오기를 저렇게 기다리고 있구나. 가지는 우주에 닿고, 뿌리는 땅속 깊숙이 내려 그 기운을 몸통으로 부단히 이어 나르는 존재가 바로 나무였구나 하는.

어쩌면 우리는 이미 우주를, 모든 것을 품고 있었는지도 모르겠습니다. 분주한 움직임에 그리고 맹목적인 욕망에 휩쓸려 잠시 잊고 있는 것인지도 모른다는 생각을 했습니다. 

전시를 준비하며, 긴 시간을 살아오면서 나무가 경험했을 수많은 변화와 고통 그리고 행복을 생각합니 다.
